Colie Galdjie, AMFT
Providing psychotherapy to children, adults, and couples online and in North Hollywood, California
Services and Focus
My practice is trauma-informed, LGBT-affirming, and rooted in liberation. Therapy asks that a patient shows up as their whole self, while the therapist shows up as their best self. As such, I work collaboratively with a wide variety of people and their presenting issues. Even if you do not feel entirely represented by my areas of expertise, I encourage you to contact me if you have hope that I may be able to help.
Please note that, while I am happy to meet with parents/caretakers virtually, I do not work with young children over telehealth, requiring their treatment to take place in my North Hollywood office.
Children/Families
I work with children ages 8+. Even when working with a child in individual therapy, I find it's most effective with at least some level of family involvement throughout the process. I also work with families in which everyone involved is a legal adult.
Adults
Working with adults across the lifespan has shown me that adults tend to enjoy (and benefit from!) many of the same creative approaches to therapy as my younger patients.
Couples
Couples counseling is not just for romantically-involved people. Working as a "couple" in therapy simply means trying to mutually resolve an issue within a relationship that needs mending or exploration, facilitated by a therapist.
Clinical Focus
2e, anxiety, communication and expression, cultural/racial identity, depression, dysgraphia/dyslexia, grief, "I don't know!", life transitions, neurodivergence, parenting, relationships to self and others, sexual/gender identity, trauma
My Approach
Just as your experiences, perspectives, and emotional responses are unique, so is your path toward healing.
My approach combines depth psychology, CBT/DBT skill-building, and relational work. We cannot CBT our way out of grief, just as it would not be appropriate to psychoanalyze a learning disorder. However, CBT skills may be useful in alleviating the anxiety that follows a loss, and depth work can help someone process the social/emotional impact of being dyslexic. This all unfolds within the alliance between a therapist and patient. The strength of this relationship is driven by mutual feedback and trust, and acts as the cornerstone of our work together.
For the times in which it may feel that words are not enough or that they're too difficult to access, regardless of age, I enjoy bringing creative forms of nonverbal expression such as drawing, painting, and sculpting into the therapy session.
